The 17th addition of the MTV movie awards went ahead as planned on Sunday night despite the fact that a huge fire tore through a Universal Studeos parking lot, featuring big stars such as Mike Myers and Will Smith.
The awards are driven by fan voting, with winners being notified before air.
The theme park and surrounding areas were closed due to the fire and subsequent damage it caused, but nothing would stop the MTV awards from taking place.
The award for best movie went to “Transformers” as predicted, with its director stating that a sequel is definitely in the works.
Ellen Page was awarded an award for best female performance for her role as a pregnant teen in “Juno.”
In a new category called “best summer movie so far” Iron Man was given an award. Many find this odd due to the fact that we are still in spring?
The only multiple award winner last night was none other than hunky Johnny Depp, who took home best comedic performance award for his role in “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” as well as best villain award, for his role in “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.”
