Stroke risk can be associated with too much or not enough sleep according to the results of a new study.
The study, featuring more than 93,000 postmenopausal women was performed by researchers at the University of Carolina School of Public Health.
It found that women receiving as much as 9 hours a night of sleep had a considerable increased risk of having a stroke, compared to women who received the recommended 7 hours of sleep a night.
On the flip side, women who only received 6 hours a night of sleep were also at a slight increased risk of having a stroke.
The results of this study coincide with other study findings showing that not enough sleep can be bad for a person’s heart.
The study has been published in the July 18 issue of the journal Stroke.
