A cancer drug manufactured by Eli Lilly and Co called Alimta has been approved by the FDA for use in patients diagnosed with advanced lung cancer.

The drug has been approved for use in lung cancer patients in combination with cisplatin, after results of a clinical study showed that the combination of the pair of drugs prolonged the lives of lung cancer patients.

Alimta was approved by the FDA back in 2004 for the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma.

NSCLC’s make up the majority of diagnosed lung cancers, and scientists continue to work on new drugs aimed at fighting against them.
