Sprint have officially launched their mobile WiMax network in Baltimore, making the city the first in America to offer WiMax technology for mobile customers.
Under the new Sprint network, people will be able to purchase Xohm service for laptops for a price of $45 per month.
To use the Sprint service, people with laptops need to purchase a relatively cheap laptop card, or if one does not want to do that, a smallish modem.
Sprint is hoping that by the end of the year, people can purchase laptops and modems with WiMax modems already built into them.
The network is said to be better than any other offered by other wireless providers, and offers fast downloading at speeds of 2 to 4 megabits per second.
According to their web site, Washington and Chicago will be the next two cities to get Xohm service.
