The FDA have sent a warning letter to Bayer over two of their over the counter aspirin medications that contain dietary supplements.

According to the warning, the medications, Bayer Aspirin with Heart Advantage and Bayer Women’s Low Dose Aspirin + Calcium, are being faulsely advertised and do not work the way they are said too.

The products also contain claims on their packaging pertaining to their ability to control cholesterol and strengthen bones, facts that are not true.

In a letter sent to the company dated October 27, the FDA writes: “These statements on the labeling send consumers a mixed message about the purpose of the product and the duration for which it can be safely used.”

“These are not FDA-approved products,” agency spokeswoman Rita Chappelle said. “They are selling products that are illegal.”

Bayer have up to 15 days to respond to the FDA’s letter.
