A man from Sacramento has been arrested on suspicion that he sent letters containing anthrax powder to media outlets.
Marc M. Keyser, 66, was arrested by the FBI yesterday and is accused of mailing more than 100 suspicious packages with the mark “anthrax” on the label.
He is accused of sending anthrax marked packages to the Atlantic Monthly office in Washington, the Charlotte Observer; and KCRA-TV in Sacramento as well as to other media outlets.
If anthrax is inhaled via the lungs, it is fatal to the person breathing it in.
Inside each package, was a computer disc, and a sugar package marked anthrax.
“Several of these packages have been collected and sent to the FBI laboratory in Quantico, Va., for processing,” the FBI said. “At this point, none of the contents have tested positive for biohazardous material.”
Keyser is currently hanging out at the Sacramento County jail.
