
Boston (ChatterShmatter) – The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is investigating a quickly spreading salmonella outbreak that has sent 70 people to the hospital and sickened people in 42 states.
The bateria salmonella is typically found in food products though it is not clear what the source of the sickness is in this instance. The CDC is investigating all products recently consumed by those affected.
The CDC is partnering with various state health associations as well as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and U.S. Department of Agriculture to determine the source of the bacteria.
During four months in 2008 the CDC was faced with another outbreak of salmonella, which in the end affected more than 1,400 people and the source was jalapeño peppers.
The symptoms of salmonella poisoning are typically diarrhea, cramps and other stomach related ailments. Though not typically severe enough to warrant a hospital admission, 70 individuals have in this latest outbreak.
