Comedian Dick Martin, star of the comedy Laugh-In has died at the age of 86 at a hospital in Santa Monica, California, near his home.
He was one half of the famous “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In,” and is partially responsible for the successful Hollywood careers of actresses such as Goldie Hawn and Lily Tomlin.
He died while surrounded by members of his family. He died from respiratory failure.
“He had had some pretty severe respiratory problems for many years, and he had pretty much stopped breathing a week ago,” said a family spokesman.
The two begun working together back in the 50′s working nightclubs and occasionally appearing on television before eventually getting their own “Laugh-In” show which debuted on NBC in 1968.
After the two split up in the 70′s, Martin went on to have a successful directing career helping out on shows such as “Newhart,” “In the Heat of the Night,” “Archie Bunker’s Place” and “Family Ties.”
