According to preliminary estimates for the first day at the box office this weekend, Sex In The City has took over the top spot from Indiana Jones.
Warner Bros the distributor for “Sex In The City” stated that more than 26 million tickets were sold for the opening day of the movie, more than 14 million more than were sold for “Indiana Jones.”
“We’re absolutely thrilled with the number,” said Warner Bros. domestic distribution president Dan Fellman. “This is just amazing.”
Sex In The City is based on the 4 professional lives of women making a name for themselves in the Big Apple. The HBO series was a big hit, attracting millions of fans who tuned in weekly to see how the 4 Prisses would manage to juggle successful careers with love lives.
The show ran on HBO for 6 years and featured Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, all of whom are back in the movie.
