This weekend’s winner at the North American box office is Disney’s WALL-E.
According to Pixar, in its first 3 days of release, the movie sold more than 62.5 million dollars worth of tickets, far ahead of second place Wanted, starring Angelina Jolie.
This is the 9th Pixar movie to hit number one, a record in itself for the parent of Disney.
In 1995, Toy Story marked the first Pixar movie to top the box office.
“Anything north of 60 (million dollars), we were going to be ecstatic,” said Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Group.
Jolie’s Wanted came in second, earning more than 51 mill in its first 3 days in theatres.
Get Smart, lead the box office last week, but fell to the third spot, earning 20 million dollars in ticket sales.
