The Nissan Leaf has been named as the 2011 European Car of the Year by a jury of vehicle experts.
This is a historic achievement as it is the first time that a 100% electric car has won the prestigious title.
Coming in second on the list was the Alfa Romeo Giulietta followed by the Vauxhall/Opel Meriva.
“The jury acknowledged today that the Nissan LEAF is a breakthrough for electric cars. Nissan LEAF is the first EV that can match conventional cars in many respects,” said Hakan Matson, President of the Jury, Car of the Year.
Back in 1993, Nissan also took home the covetted award for their subcompact.
