It was a bitter sweet victory for the San Francisco 49ers last night as they pummeled the Cardinals but have probably lost their leading rusher for the season.
Running back Frank Gore suffered a fractured right hip in his team’s 27-6 victory and was replaced by former Philadelphia Eagles star Brian Westbrook who chugged for more than 130 yards.
The injury occured in the first quarter of the game, when Gore looked to be ready for a monster outing after rushing for a total of 40 yards on his first two carries.
“It’s tough to take Frank Gore off the field,” Westbrook said. “I’ve seen it firsthand. He means so much to this offense and this team that when you take him off, it’s just hard.”
Now that Gore is out the former Eagle will become the team’s starting runningback and will look to make a name for himself in the remaining games of the season.
Gore rushed for 801 yards on 198 carries this season, had 46 receptions for 452 yards and scored five touchdowns.
