You know winter is well on its way when it snows in the UK.
Yes the powdery white stuff came thick and furious yesterday, closing airports, postponing trains and bringing traffic to a stand still.
Gatwick Airport, the eighth busiest passenger air hub in Europe, was temporarily shut down because of the snowy conditions, and Edinburgh Airport, Scotland’s busiest was also closed because of the white stuff.
Not since 1993 has the UK faced such a large amount of snow, and it is not even officially winter yet.
“We brought in extra people to try to clear the runway. We had a vast army of people. But as fast as they were clearing the snow, the quicker it settled,” said a spokeswoman for Gatwick Airport.
