It is being reported that Abbott have issued a recall for millions of diabetes test strips. According to the FDA more than 359 million testing strips are being recalled as they can potentially give false blood sugar readings to diabetics which could be deadly. The strips being recalled are under the brand names: Precision Xceed Pro, Precision Xtra, Medisense Optium, Optium, OptiumEZ and ReliOn Ultima.
Diabetes patients monitor their blood sugar very closely and if it is too low, they can adjust it by eating certain foods. If a diabetic were to receive a false low blood sugar reading, they would eat something with glucose to bring up their sugar, but if their actual blood sugar was high to begin with, this extra glucose could potentially be very dangerous for their health.
