The Armed Forces Bowl was a close affair but when it came to the victory, Army won a squeaker over SMU by the score of 16-14. Army took a 16-0 lead to half time on SMU’s home field but had to hold on for dear life down the stretch as the Mustangs came out of the locker room swinging.
Kyle Padron threw for two second half touchdowns, but a costly fumble late in the fourth quarter that was returned for a score by the Army defense put the nail in the coffen. For Army this is their first winning season since 1996 as they finish the year 7-6 to SMU’s 7-7.
