Hosni Mubarak has resigned as President of Egypt after nearly three weeks of intense protest. In a statement posted today on state television today Vice President Omar Suleiman said that Mubarak had “decided to relinquish the office of the presidency.”
Mubarak has moved to the Sinai town of Sharm El-Sheikh, leaving control of the country to the Supreme Council of the armed forces. The resignation of Mubarak comes days after he was allegedly going to step down, only to change his mind, a move that caused tremendous backlash across the country.
