Boston (ChatterShmatter) – Earlier this week, a brand new video game console was announced, in the form of the Ouya.
The Ouya was unveiled as a $99 video game console that would be powered by the Google Android operating system.
The gaming console comes in the form of a small silver and black cube that will hook up to your television, and offer games through its very own App store.
The creators of Ouya planned to try and raise $950,000 in 30 days through the crowdfunding site Kickstarter.
In just 8-hours though, Ouya raised over $1 million, setting a records on Kickstarter.
Now, just a few days later, the Ouya has raised over $4.2 million, and still has 27-days to go.
The founder of Ouya, Julie Uhram, came out and stated how amazed they were with the reception.
The Android powered video game system will be an open platform, meaning it will be fully hackable.
Developers will be obligated to offer free versions of their games in the form of demos. Ouya is said to be keeping 30% of the profits from their App store that launches with the console.
The Ouya is tentatively set to launch in the Spring of 2013.
