Box office numbers are in for the weekend with Indiana Jones leading the way with projected earnings that could make it the second biggest Memorial weekend movie opener in history.
The movie, entitled “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” starring Harrison Ford grossed more than 100 million from Friday to sunday, plus an additional 25 million from Thursday.
It is expected to rake in an extra 25 million dollars on tomorrow’s holiday, bringing its total to more than 150 million.
Movie goers have been lined up for quite sometime, eagerly waiting for the opening weekend of the latest sequel in the Indiana Jones series. They flocked to theatres to see the flick that only trails “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” for Memorial weekend opening earnings.
“‘Indiana Jones’ did incredibly well for a film that comes 19 years after the previous installment,” said Paul Dergarabedian, president of tracking firm Media By Numbers LLC.
Starring alongside Ford in the movie are Cate Blanchett and Shia LaBeouf. The movie is directed by Steven Spielberg.
