Television network NBC has settled a law suit with the family of a man who committed suicide following being exposed by the reality show To Catch a Predator.
The show works by putting an undercover NBC employee in the role of a teen who visits chatrooms and is charged with attempting to lure men to meet her for “intimate” encounters. When the men show up at the house, they meet up with an NBC camera crew, not the girl they were expecting to meet.
Louis W. Conradt Jr., an assistant district attorney in Rockwall County, shot himself as he was about to be arrested by police, on charges of attempting to seduce a minor over the internet. A film crew was also present at the time of his confrontation.
He failed to show up at the pre-arranged house, thus local police traveled to his home to arrest him.
When confronted by police, he shot himself.
The amount of the settlement is not known, but what is known is that originally, Conradt’s sister had sued the network for $100 million.
