Washington (ChatterShmatter) – Researchers have found that consuming soy as a child can greatly reduce a woman’s risk of breast cancer when they become an adult.
Researchers focused on a group of over 1,500 Asian Americans for this study, with some already being diagnosed with breast cancer, and some now.
The U.S. National Cancer Institute study aimed to look into their diets to see how soy would impact their risk.
What they found was that those who consumed soy as a child had a 60% reduced risk of breast cancer.
Consuming soy as an adult cut the risk as well, by an impressive 25%.
Researchers are now working to see exactly why soy products cut the risk of breast cancer by so much.
The study has been published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention.
