Boston (ChatterShmatter) – A new report released this week is calling for an overhaul of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to better food safety in the U.S.
The new report was put out this week by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, as well as the Trust for America’s Health, and was called Keeping America’s Food Safe: A Blueprint for FIxing the Food Safety System at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The idea behind this report is to call for an FDA overhaul to improve food safety.
What the group wants to see happen is for the FDA to no longer be the governing body in charge of food safety.
They would rather have a separate group handle food safety in the U.S., leaving the FDA to do whatever else it does with the drug industry and such.
This would better improve food safety in the U.S., as it would allow it to have far more attention to prevent issues before they take place.
President Obama has set up the White House Food Safety Working Group as a way to start addressing this very issue, as we move forward in the months ahead.
