Boston (ChatterShmatter) – The Boston Bruins had a celebration like none seen in Boston in decades, as they raised the banner on their Stanley Cup championship.
The Boston Bruins opened up their season on Thursday night against one of their biggest rivals, the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Flyers are reloaded this year, with Jaromir Jagr, a new goaltender, as well as plenty of other new additions to the roster, a roster that was very banged up in the playoffs last season.
The Boston Bruins head into 2011 – 2012 with largely the same roster that won the Stanley Cup last year, minus a few pieces such as retired Mark Recchi.
The Bruins now have 6 championships to their name, with this being the first since 1972.
Bobby Orr and members of the 1972 Bruins helped raised the banner in an emotional night in the TD Garden.
The question now though is, can they repeat? NHL experts are all picking against the Boston Bruins.
Many do not even believe they will make it out of the Eastern Conference.
The popular picks as of right now include the loaded Buffalo Sabres, as well as the Pittsburgh Penguins.
In the West, the Vancouver Canucks are going to be back, as well as an improves Los Angeles Kings, Detroit Red Wings, among other NHL powerhouses.
The Boston Bruins can repeat, but it is going to be a difficult road, and is likely going to require the addition of a goal-scorer as the season goes on.
If large improvements are seen from Tyler Seguin, Nathan Horton, and Brad Marchand, the Bruins will have enough firepower to get through and could reach the end again.
If not, it is going to be tough for the perfect storm to ignite again and for the Boston Bruins to repeat.
